My Approach

I believe that we are all wise beings who, given the right environment, have an innate drive toward healing, growth, and wholeness.

Unfortunately, we often get pulled or pushed off of this path , one way or another. Over the course of our lives, we inevitably become wounded. Whether it is during childhood or later in life, every single one of us experiences circumstances and relationships where things go wrong, we experience loss, or we don’t feel seen or met. In order to protect these wounds, we develop strategies and symptoms, often based on a skill or behavior that comes naturally to us. Some of us might move towards care-taking others, numbing out, or over-achieving. Others of us might default towards self-reliance, fighting back, or problem-solving. There are an infinite number of ways we may have learned to cope.

Each of our strategies likely served us at one point or another, but over time they can become habitual and require us to silence essential parts of ourselves in order to function. This can leave us feeling stuck, unfulfilled, anxious, or like something is missing.

Therapy is a space where you are invited to start getting curious about these strategies and the ways in which you organize your experience. Through the therapeutic process, you will have the opportunity to connect with and give voice to deeper and more complex parts of you, peeling back the layers to find and free your unique and authentic self.

As your therapist, I view my role as a non-judgmental witness and a compassionate companion as, together, we navigate the complexities and challenges of this human existence.

I said: what about my eyes? He said: Keep them on the road. I said: What about my passion? He said: Keep it burning. I said: What about my heart? He said: Tell me what you hold inside it? I said: Pain and sorrow. He said: Stay with it. The wound is the place where the Light enters you.

 How I Work:

  • Collaborative and Client-Led: I believe that you are the expert of your own experience. My job is to listen to what’s alive for you and reflect and engage with your experience to help deepen your understanding of and connection to yourself.

  • Balanced: My approach is both warm and direct. I work with you to find a supportive balance of active exploration and spacious reflection.

  • Weekly: Therapy is a process that requires dedication, openness, curiosity, and time. You are entering into a relationship with yourself and your therapist, and committing to returning each week is integral to the work.

  • Depth-Oriented: Past events and relationships influence how you show up in the world, but their impact is often subtle or not consciously known. I listen to both what is being said and left unsaid, and work with you to make conscious the parts of your experience that are currently outside of your awareness in order to better understand how your historic lived experiences might be impacting present day challenges.

  • Present Moment Mindfulness: Bringing mindful awareness to your present moment experience can be helpful in uncovering and connecting with your deeper, often unconscious experience. My work with clients invites receptivity to your present moment experience as it unfolds throughout session.

  • Somatic (Body) Awareness: So much wisdom lives within your body—wisdom that is integral to understanding yourself as a whole being. In our work together, I support you in bringing greater awareness to your somatic experience (sensations, feelings, impulses, etc.) through breath, movement, and internal exploration.
